DIY: Gift Tags For Christmas

Make your own gift tags this year using chicken wire, burlap and some left over greenery to add a memorable and personalized touch.

With Christmas less than 1 month away--it's time to start making your list and checking it twice! Sometimes the thought of DIY Christmas presents can leads to horrific Pinterest fails but it doesn't have to! If you're not wanting to DIY a whole Christmas gift but do want to add a personal touch to your gifts this year--this chicken wire diy holiday tag is the perfect project. And as a bonus--it's very budget friendly.

Supplies:

  • Chicken wire

  • Greenery (we used fake greenery from Micheals but real would be a nice touch too and you can get it for free from local tree stands/farms)

  • Binding wire

  • Brown tags (we found ours at Micheals)

Step 1:

Take your galvanized chicken wire (we found our roll on Amazon) and cut a triangle shape about 4 inches across the bottom in width. We thought about gluing the chicken wire to the burlap roll so it had a backing, like we did for our Fall Banner here--but the chicken wire sort of got lost so we decided to not use it. But it if you wanted to spraypaint the chicken wire gold or silver--it might look nice against the burlap.

Step 2:

After you have your chicken wire triangle cut out--cut some sprigs of greenery and get a nice mixture of flowers or pinecones. Secure the bottom end with the wire twine. The wire in the twine makes it very easy to keep the bunch secure. After wrapping your greenery--leave the ends dangling for the next step.

Step 3:

Next, take your danging end pieces and thread them through the chicken wire so the greenery lies down flush against the chicken wire. Then tie the loose ends off (see photos below). Then write your holiday message and secure the tag to the chicken wire using another piece of twine. And that's it! You've got a unique and thoughtful Christmas tag that can be resued for years to come! These would also make really great name tags at a holiday dinner places on top of the napkin in the center of a plate or to the side of the plate somehow.
